What it cleans

  • Limescale and mineral buildup

What changed

  • Brown residue and standing water around the drain: gone
  • The filter and the reservoir floor are clean
  • No film left on the walls

After the cleaning cycle finished and I rinsed everything out, the inside of the machine looked noticeably cleaner. The mineral buildup around the evaporator pins and the water tray was gone… The ice produced after the cleaning was crystal clear and had no lingering taste or odor.

Questions, answered

Does it work in countertop and portable ice makers?

Yes. BLITZ Ice Machine Cleaner works in standalone ice machines: countertop, portable, built-in and commercial units, at home or at work.

Can I use it to clean my fridge ice maker?

No. BLITZ Ice Machine Cleaner is made for standalone ice machines only, not ice makers built into a refrigerator or freezer.

How often should you clean your ice maker?

Clean most home ice machines every 1 to 2 months, and more often if yours runs every day. A box of 24 BLITZ tablets works out to about $1 a clean.

My ice tastes weird or looks cloudy. Will this help?

Often, yes. Scale and residue inside an ice machine can cloud the ice and give it an off taste, and a BLITZ tablet removes mineral deposits and limescale and helps neutralize odours.

When can I make ice again?

You can make ice right after the rinse. After cleaning with BLITZ:

  1. Run two cleaning cycles.
  2. Drain the water and wipe the inside dry.
  3. Run fresh water through.
  4. Make ice. To be extra sure, throw out the first batch.

Should I clean it before I store it?

Yes. Before you put an ice maker away for the winter or after the cottage season, clean it with a BLITZ tablet, wipe it dry and leave the lid open. It starts fresh next time.

  • This is one of those products that is a little hard to describe because, ideally, nothing dramatic happens. There was no fizzing volcano, no swamp water drained from my ice maker, no before-and-after transformation worthy of a cleaning commercial. Just a quiet little maintenance tablet doing its quiet little maintenance-tablet job. The presentation of these cleaning tablets is very nice, which strangely made me feel really good to own. I like that the tablets come in individual sachets; this makes them easy to store, easy to use, I don't have to measure, and less wasteful because I am not opening a larger container every time I need one. Since I bought my portable ice maker used from a thrift shop, and there was still water sitting in the base when I brought it home, I have always wondered a little about the cleanliness of its first kitchen. It did not smell bad, it wasn't dirty or beat up, and I could not see any obvious mineral buildup or mold in the areas I was able to inspect, but using these tablets gives me some peace of mind that the internal parts I cannot see were getting a proper cleaning. Sometimes cleaning is less about fixing a visible problem and more about convincing your brain that the mystery appliance has been properly civilized. If the tablets help to reduce any hidden mineral buildup that makes the machine work harder and harder over time, even better. I couldn't provide before and after photos... because my ice maker looked the same for both. And I don't have a microscope to verify cleanliness levels, but I'm still happy with this product. There are plenty of tablets included, so this should last me a very long time with monthly or bi-monthly use... especially during the summer months. The quantity makes it feel practical and worthwhile. I'll put my ice maker into storage for the Winter months after giving it a double-dose of this descaler.

  • I’ve used these tablets twice now they’re kind of like an Alka-Seltzer tablet when you put them in they kind of get fizzy and bubbly and disintegrate in the water overtime. I’ve use these twice now to clean out my icemaker. You still have to give it a wipe out afterwards, but it does a decent job breaking down the calcium deposits you know the white stuff on the inside of the ice machine after using for a long periods of time. You get quite a lot of them in this package for how much it is so this is likely enough to last me for a couple years all in pretty decent job of helping you clean up the icemaker.

  • I got these for the countertop ice machine at work. We only use distilled water in it, so I can’t say there was a dramatic before and after because I don’t think our machine gets particularly dirty. Still, it feels better knowing it’s been properly cleaned. The tablets are individually wrapped and you get 24 in the box, so this should last us quite a while. My only concern is the packaging. The box clearly says ice machine cleaner, but the warning section says “This product is intended for washing machine cleaning only.” I’m assuming that was accidentally carried over from another product they make, but I don’t love that ambiguity on something used to clean a machine that makes ice we consume. The tablets worked fine, but I’d definitely like to see that label corrected.

  • I bought these cleaning tablets for my countertop ice machine, and they made the cleaning process much easier than using vinegar, which is my usual go-to. The tablets dissolved really quickly. The tab did a great job removing mineral buildup in the back where the ice probes are. After running a cleaning cycle and rinsing the machine the inside looked MUCH cleaner. One tablet is all you need at a time so with 24 tablets in the box there's enough to keep my ice maker clean for a long time. The instructions were thorough and easy to follow, and there wasn't any strong chemical smell while using it or left over after. These tablets are an easy and mess free way to clean your ice maker. I was impressed with how easy and really mindless they were to use.

  • I used these tablets after noticing the ice from our countertop ice maker was starting to taste a little off. It was not terrible, but it did not feel as fresh as before, and the inside of the machine looked like it needed a proper cleaning. These tablets made the process simple because I did not have to measure liquid cleaner or guess how much to use. The tablet format is really convenient. I just followed the cleaning cycle with one tablet, and it felt much less messy than using a bottle of solution. I like that each tablet is already portioned, so it is easy to keep up with regular cleaning without overthinking it. After running the cleaner through the machine, the inside looked fresher and the ice tasted cleaner again. It also helped with that slight stale smell that can build up when an ice maker gets used often. I noticed the difference more the next day when making a fresh batch of ice for drinks. The box comes with enough tablets to last a long time, which is nice because cleaning the ice maker is one of those things I usually forget until there is a problem. Having the tablets stored near the machine makes it easier to remember to clean it more regularly. This is a good option if you use a countertop or nugget ice maker and want an easy way to keep it clean. It is simple, mess-free, and helps the machine feel fresher without making the cleaning process complicated.

  • These tablets dissolve pretty quickly. I used them in a Ziploc bag to clean my rainfall shower head, which had a bunch of hard calcite buildup from the previous owners. It had about ten years of buildup on it and I could not use boiling water for the soak, but it still managed to take off a big chunk of the scale. I had to scrape a little bit at the end, but the shower head is a lot closer to looking new now. I have tried plain citric acid before, but this mixture seems to have some extra chemicals that helped it dissolve the scale better. I also tried it in a toilet bowl to see how it would handle the limescale there. It got the scale out pretty easily without needing to scrub. It might not be the most cost-effective option for a toilet since standard cleaning gel is cheaper, but it works if you just want to drop it in and leave it. It was mostly helpful for the shower head since that was giving me a lot of trouble.
