It's a little tough to see inside our garburator so I can't say for sure how well it worked, but it was easy enough chucking a tablet in and letting it foam a bit. And while our garburator didn't smell bad or anything, it never smelled good either, so I suppose it's always nice to have a bit of a citrus sent to cover anything leftover unpleasant odours. It sure beats dumping dish detergent literally down the drain.

I looked through the chemistry of this, it's basically citric acid and a few other bits of chemistry and some soap to make it poof up and touch all the areas. The purpose of citric acid is to descale all the metal and plastic components in the garbage disposal. Water has dissolved minerals, and those end up sticking onto the machinery, same as they do to your shower walls and toilet, only you can't see them. So the citric acid breaks those minerals down and lets them wash away and stops the mechanism from being crusted up. It'll also clean off rust. The challenge with reviewing this is... I couldn't see inside my garbage disposal before I put the tablet in, and I can't see inside it after I put it in. So, I can't actually tell whether this worked perfectly or did nothing at all or made things worse. Either way, I have no evidence. You wouldn't expect it to operate any better (unless it was nearly frozen up), it's mostly preventative. I threw two into my garbage disposal and ran it as I was supposed to. I noticed no change. For what it's worth, I threw two into my frustratingly useless dishwasher to see if it would clean out what might be calcium, lime and rust buildup inside the pumps, and, it filled the whole dishwasher with foam and started spraying foam out the sides and underneath. So, don't do that. Don't do that with 2 tablets. Maybe 1/2 a tablet. And then keep an eye on it in case you have to reset it and just tell it to rinse. So, what do we say here. I threw a puck into a hole in the sink, and then things happened. Does that help you make a decision about whether this product works or not? What I can say, having studied a bit of the chemistry of rust and lime removal, chelation processes, etc, that this has the correct components to clean up a garbage disposal. Whether the delivery mechanism will actually make that work in a functional way rather than wash away and accomplish nothing? Who knows. Unfair for me to give it anything other than 5 stars, I have no criticism. I think I'll pop one in every few months.

These garbage disposal tablets came in a pack that will provide several months of cleaning. I have performed two cleaning cycles now on a garbage disposal that has been in service for about fifteen years. We were not suffering from any bad smells, but when you look down the drain you could see significant discolouration. The level of foaming was surprising, as the tablets dissolve they have very good coverage. After the first application there was a noticeable difference in the appearance of cleanliness. About three weeks later we performed our second application. The result of the second time resulted in an even more obvious improvement. Overall Verdict? If used on a regular basis these will clearly keep your garbage disposal fresh and clean. I recommend this product.

Afterwards, there was a light citrusy scent, and I think the tablets removed a surface layer of grime, although I wouldn't call it "clean and shiny." But I'll admit there was quite a bit of buildup, and, for the benefit of the readers, I opted not to include before and after photos. The tablets contain legitimate cleaning ingredients and are really good for deodorizing and routine maintenance. But once you get some build-up, you need some kind of scrubbing mechanism. Using ice and salt provides the physical scrubbing needed. Using a combination of these tablets and ice+salt will provide the regular maintenance needed—once I get in there and get the rest of the guck off manually. There are 24 tablets, so the package provides a one-year supply when using two tablets per month. Overall, these worked well for foaming, freshening and removing some surface grime, but scrubbing will still be required occasionally.
