Glisten Dishwasher Magic Alternative: BLITZ Tablets vs the Bottle
For regular cleaning, BLITZ tablets replace Glisten Dishwasher Magic with fewer steps and a lower cost per clean. Glisten's label calls for one 354 mL bottle per clean, upside down, on the hottest cycle so its wax plug melts; a BLITZ tablet goes in the detergent compartment on a normal cycle. Glisten was $5.29 a bottle at Canadian Tire on October 20, 2026; BLITZ is 24 cleans for $23.95, about $1.00 each. Glisten's own safety data sheet lists the liquid at pH 1.2 to 1.5 and "Corrosive to metals".
Which should you pick?
We pick BLITZ: one tablet, a normal cycle, nothing to wedge upside down.
- A year of cleaning in one box for $23.95, about $1.00 a clean, from a Québec company in Laval with service in French and English.
- Septic-safe, free shipping from $40 and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Prefer Amazon? BLITZ is on Amazon.ca too, without the 10% store credit.

Glisten Dishwasher Magic price in Canada: cost per clean
One Glisten bottle is one clean. Canadian Tire sells the 354 mL Citrus Scent bottle for $5.29, its regular price on October 20, 2026, "Excluded from free shipping". BLITZ is $23.95 for 24 tablets: about $1.00 a clean.
At Glisten's own pace ("Use monthly or as needed"), a year is 12 bottles, $63.48. One BLITZ box covers a year at one tablet every two weeks: twice as many cleans for $39.53 less. Clean monthly and one box lasts two years, about $12 a year.
Shipping is free from $40, so two boxes or the Essentials Kit ship free. Even a single box with $7.95 shipping comes to about $1.33 a clean, a quarter of the price of one Glisten bottle.
How to use Glisten Dishwasher Magic (and when the wax plug won't melt)
From its label (the bottle is now sold as "Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner"):
- Empty dishwasher, no detergent. "Use with empty dishwasher."
- Cap off, plug in. "Remove cap. DO NOT REMOVE WAX PLUG."
- Upside down in the silverware basket or secured in the bottom rack.
- Hottest cycle. "Water must be as hot as possible to melt wax plug," so run the nearest faucet until hot first. Heavy buildup may need "a second application".
BLITZ: rinse the filter, put one tablet in the detergent compartment of the empty dishwasher, run a normal cycle. Every two weeks. Both routines step by step: dishwasher cleaner tablets vs liquids.
Tip: Wax plug didn't melt? Glisten's FAQ says the water must reach 125°F (about 52°C): cap off, bottle upside down, a longer, hotter cycle. Still stuck? Check your water heater setting or the dishwasher's heating element, it says.
Glisten Dishwasher Magic ingredients, pH and label warnings
The active ingredient is citric acid: 25.0% on the US label, 27.7% in Health Canada's listing, "10 - 30" percent on the October 2025 SDS. At that strength the SDS lists a pH of 1.2 to 1.5 (7 is neutral) and classifies the liquid as "Corrosive to metals, Category 1", with "Causes skin irritation", "Causes serious eye irritation" and "May cause respiratory irritation".
The US label adds "Harmful if absorbed through the skin" and "Do not mix with chlorine bleach or any other product as harmful fumes may result."
BLITZ uses citric acid too, with sodium carbonate ("Sodium carbonate, citric acid," says its product page), in a tablet: no liquid to pour, no chlorine or bleach. It removes grease, grime and limescale buildup and helps get rid of the smell at the source.
