Tilex Mold & Mildew Alternative for Caulk, Grout and Washer Seals
For black lines on caulk, grout and front-load washer seals, BLITZ Mold Stain Remover replaces Tilex Mold & Mildew because it stays on the stain. The gel sits 3 to 5 hours on the line, while the Tilex label says to rinse after 10 minutes, and right away on rubber. Same bleach chemistry as Tilex, in a thick gel that clings to vertical caulk and rubber folds instead of running off. $24.95 for 236 mL: about 26 to 53 cents per washer seal fold, with free shipping from $40, 10% back in store credit and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Our pick: BLITZ Mold Stain Remover
Use it on: black lines on tub and shower caulk, grout lines, and the folds of a washer, fridge or dishwasher seal.

Why a gel holds on vertical caulk and a spray runs off, and how other bleach sprays compare: mould gel vs bleach spray.
What's in Tilex Mold & Mildew: the Canadian label, quoted
A 2.4% sodium hypochlorite spray. Health Canada's Drug Product Database lists Tilex Mold & Mildew Remover (DIN 02246384, The Clorox Company of Canada) with one active ingredient, sodium hypochlorite at 2.4%.
- Directions: "Spray surface until thoroughly wet; let stand 10 minutes; then rinse." On rubber, plastic and vinyl: "Rinse immediately after use."
- Surfaces: hard, non-porous ones. "Do not use on wood or painted surfaces," and keep it off aluminum, fabric and paper.
- Air: "Use only in well-ventilated areas." Not recommended for people with heart conditions or chronic respiratory problems such as asthma.
- Mixing: "DANGEROUS FUMES FORM WHEN MIXED WITH OTHER PRODUCTS." Not with toilet bowl cleaners, rust removers, acids or ammonia.

What BLITZ is, and what it isn't
BLITZ Mold Stain Remover is a sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide gel: chlorine bleach, like Tilex. What changes is the format: a thick line that stays on caulk, grout or a rubber fold instead of draining off, with no spray mist.
How it's used: dry the surface, run a line of gel on the stain, leave it 3 to 5 hours, then wipe off with a damp cloth. Gloves, eye protection and an open window. It lifts black and pink stains from the surface; old, deep stains may need a second round, and if mould has grown inside old caulk, BLITZ says replacing the caulk is the real fix.

Where the gel replaces Tilex
Start with the surface, not the brand. Black mould stains sit in lines and folds: caulk, grout and rubber seals. That is where a spray drains off in minutes and a gel stays put for hours.

- Shower and tub caulk: the gel, line by line. Surface stain or mould inside the silicone? See black shower caulk and grout.
- Front-load washer seal: the gel in the fold, where Tilex has to be rinsed off at once. Full method: mould on a front-load washer gasket.
- Kitchen sink caulk, fridge and dishwasher seals: the gel. See mould stains in the kitchen.
- Grout lines: the gel, run along the line, so it stays in the joint instead of running down the tile.
Tilex prices in Canada and BLITZ cost per job (October 20, 2026)
Tilex Mold & Mildew sells for $5.79 to $6.99 in Canada. Regular shelf prices on October 20, 2026, next to BLITZ.
| Product and store | Size | Regular price |
|---|---|---|
| BLITZ, goblitzclean.com | 236 mL | $24.95 |
| Tilex Mold & Mildew, Canadian Tire | 946 mL | $5.79 |
| Tilex Mold & Mildew, London Drugs | 946 mL | $6.99 |
What a BLITZ job costs: $24.95 for 236 mL is 10.6 cents per mL, and a thin line of gel uses 5 to 10 mL per metre.
- Washer seal fold (50 cm): 2.5 to 5 mL, so 26 to 53 cents.
- Tub caulk line (3 m): 15 to 30 mL, so $1.59 to $3.17. One bottle covers about 8 to 15 full tub lines.
- On goblitzclean.com: the bottle earns $2.50 back in store credit, shipping is free from $40, and the 30-day money-back guarantee applies.
Buying Tilex in Canada: check the name
On Amazon.ca, the first Tilex result isn't the mould spray. A search for "tilex mold mildew" on October 20, 2026 led with Tilex Fresh Shower, a bleach-free daily spray, $13.69 from a third-party seller. The Tilex Mold & Mildew Remover listing had no featured offer, only third-party sellers from $5.29.
- Fresh Shower is a daily spray for keeping soap scum and mildew stains from building up. In our view, it isn't the product for black stains already set in caulk.
- In stores too: Canadian Tire's grid shows a bleach-free Tilex Daily Shower spray right beside Mold & Mildew, same size, same $5.79. Check that the name says "with Bleach".
- Where: clorox.ca lists Walmart, Amazon, Loblaws, Canadian Tire, Sobeys, Dollarama, Metro, London Drugs and Save-On-Foods. BLITZ is sold at goblitzclean.com and on Amazon.ca.
Switching from Tilex to the gel: never mix
Careful: Health Canada warns that "Bleach will react with any cleaning product containing ammonia or an acid, including vinegar," and the gases can be deadly. BLITZ's product page says never use it at the same time as another cleaner, and not with vinegar or the washer tablets. Breathed fumes from a mix? Get to fresh air and call a poison centre (Québec: 1-800-463-5060).

- One product at a time. If you sprayed Tilex first, rinse it off well and dry the surface before the gel.
- Washer too? Run the BLITZ washer tablet cycle first, let it drain, then apply the gel.

Frequently asked questions
What can I use instead of Tilex Mold & Mildew?
For caulk, grout lines and rubber seals, a bleach gel such as BLITZ Mold Stain Remover, left 3 to 5 hours. It clings to vertical caulk and rubber folds where a spray runs off, and costs about 26 to 53 cents per washer seal fold.
Can I use Tilex on a front-load washer seal?
Its label says to rinse rubber immediately, so it can't sit in the fold. BLITZ lists washer gaskets among its uses: run a line of gel in the fold, leave it 3 to 5 hours, then wipe off with a damp cloth.
Is Tilex Mold & Mildew bleach, and is BLITZ bleach-free?
Both are chlorine bleach. Tilex is 2.4% sodium hypochlorite (Health Canada); BLITZ lists sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide. Take the same care with either: gloves, eye protection, fresh air, and never with another cleaner.
Is Tilex Fresh Shower the same as Tilex Mold & Mildew?
No. Fresh Shower is a bleach-free daily spray; Mold & Mildew is the bleach one. Check the name before you order, especially on Amazon.ca.

On October 20, 2026, Canadian Tire had it at $5.79 and London Drugs at $6.99 for 946 mL. On Amazon.ca, only third-party sellers offered it.
