Best Garburator Cleaner in Canada (2026)
BLITZ is the best garburator (garbage disposal) cleaner in Canada: one foaming tablet twice a month cleans food residue and grease out of the grinding chamber and leaves a light citrus scent. It comes from a Québec company in Laval that sells in Canadian dollars, with a full French store and service in French and English. 24 tablets are a year of cleans for $24.95, or $1.04 a clean, the least per year of the cleaners we priced at each brand's own schedule (ACTIVE $28.95, Affresh $54.22, Plink $77.90 at regular prices on October 24, 2026), with free shipping from $40 and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How we compared
Our method in detail
Each brand's published ingredients and directions, regular Canadian prices on October 24, 2026 (not sales) divided by uses per pack, and each brand's own schedule for a year. No lab tests; unbranded marketplace tablets with no brand page were left out.
The picks, ranked
1. BLITZ Disposal Cleaner & Deodorizer
Our pick: best garburator cleaner in Canada

What's in it: citric acid, sodium carbonate, three surfactants (sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl glutamate), disodium EDTA and fragrance, per the product page. The surfactants lift grease, which an acid alone doesn't. No chlorine or bleach.
How to use it: a thin stream of hot water, one tablet in the opening, then turn the garburator on and let the foam work through the grinding chamber. Rinse a few seconds. Twice a month, so 24 last a year.
Price: 24 for $24.95, $1.04 a clean ($24.95 ÷ 24), the same on Amazon.ca. The BLITZ garburator cleaner is rated 4.7 out of 5 (12 reviews) on goblitzclean.com.
2. ACTIVE Garbage Disposal Cleaner
Price: 24 for $28.95 on Amazon.ca, sold by ACTIVE Official: $1.21 a clean. Its own store lists the 24-pack at US$29.95, and the site has no French version.

Ingredients and directions
What's in it: citric acid, a "proprietary foaming agent", sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, surfactants, sodium percarbonate, citrus scent and colouring, per its Amazon.ca listing.
How to use it: hot water for a minute, then a trickle, one tablet and about a minute of running; 2 tablets "for the first cleaning or heavy residue," then twice a month.
3. Affresh Disposal Cleaner
Price: 6 tablets for $27.11 on Amazon.ca, shipped and sold by Amazon US: $4.52 a clean, more than four times a BLITZ tablet. Not at Canadian Tire or Walmart.ca.

Ingredients and directions
What's in it: sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch glycolate, glucono-delta-lactone, sodium percarbonate, sodium acetate, magnesium stearate and fragrance, per affresh.com.
How to use it: hot water on low flow, one tablet, then the disposal on "for 15-30 seconds" and a rinse. Affresh recommends it "monthly, or as needed."
4. Plink Garbage Disposal Cleaner
Price: 40 for $29.96 on Walmart.ca, plus $20 seller delivery from Compac Industries: $0.75 a ball, or $77.90 a year at twice a week (104 balls), three times a year of BLITZ.

Ingredients and directions
What's in it: a scented ball of d-limonene, paraffin, lanolin, citral and dyes (Amazon.ca listing). No foaming agent.
How to use it: a slow stream of water, one ball in the opening, then about 15 seconds of grinding. Plink says it "works in less than 15-seconds" and to use it "at least twice a week or as needed."
5. Glisten Disposer Care
Price: only from third-party sellers on Amazon.ca: 20 packets for $63.32, $3.17 a clean, $164.63 a year at once a week.
Ingredients and directions
What's in it: a packet of blue foam. The Amazon.ca listing gives no ingredients, only "Lemon Scented."
How to use it: drop a packet in and run the garburator. The listing says to "use weekly or as needed."
6. Lemi Shine Disposal Cleaner
Price: only from a third-party seller on Amazon.ca: 8 pods for $46.97, $5.87 a clean, about $305 a year at once a week.
Ingredients and directions
What's in it: citric acid, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium sulfate, fragrance, calcium silicate and isopropanol, per its Amazon.ca listing.
How to use it: hot water for a minute, then a "pencil thin stream," one pod, and the garburator on until the foam clears (1 to 2 minutes), "once a week or as needed."
7. Ice and lemon peels

InSinkErator's manual says ice creates "a scouring action" and citrus peels "freshen up drain smells," but its FAQ adds that "there are better ways to clean your garbage disposal than using the ice method." Neither removes the grease film on the chamber walls (ice, lemon peels or vinegar in a garburator).
8. Vinegar and baking soda
About 50¢ a go with GE Appliances' recipe (1/2 cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar) and Great Value jugs from Walmart.ca ($2.27 and $1.37). The fizz is the two neutralizing each other, not scrubbing, and InSinkErator, Moen and Waste King don't mention vinegar.
Careful: one product at a time. Health Canada warns that bleach reacts with any cleaning product containing an acid, including vinegar, and gives off toxic gases.
Cost per clean and per year
- BLITZ: $24.95 a year for 24 cleans at twice a month. ACTIVE is $28.95 on the same schedule.
- Per clean isn't the whole story. Plink is $0.75 a ball, but twice a week makes it $77.90 a year (104 × $0.749), plus delivery. Weekly Glisten and Lemi Shine reach $164.63 and about $305.
- Bigger motors: two BLITZ tablets (3/4 or 1 HP) make $49.90 a year, still under Affresh's $54.22.
How many tablets for your garburator

The motor size is on the label of the unit under the sink: one BLITZ tablet for 1/3 HP, one or two for 1/2 HP (an InSinkErator Badger 5), two for 3/4 HP (an Evolution Essential) and 1 HP. In Greater Montréal, the CMM wastewater bylaw (2008-47) allows only residential units of 1/2 HP or less.
Hot water is fine for the clean: InSinkErator says "it is OK to drain hot water into the disposer between grinding periods." Cold water stays the rule while grinding food. For a blocked drain or jammed motor, see garbage disposal cleaner vs drain cleaner; for the splash guard and flange, how to clean a garburator safely.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best garburator cleaner in Canada?
BLITZ, from a Québec company in Laval that sells in Canadian dollars with service in French and English: one foaming tablet twice a month, a year of cleans for $24.95.
How often should you clean a garburator?
With BLITZ, twice a month. Brand schedules run from monthly (Affresh) to weekly (Glisten, Lemi Shine) and twice a week (Plink). Scrub the underside of the splash guard every week or two as well.
Are Plink and Glisten sold in Canada?
Plink is on Walmart.ca, sold by Compac Industries (40 for $29.96 plus $20 seller delivery on October 24, 2026). We found Glisten Disposer Care only from third-party sellers on Amazon.ca, not at Canadian Tire or Walmart.ca.
Will a garburator cleaner clear a blocked drain?
No. A cleaner tablet is for a garburator that still drains. Never pour a chemical drain cleaner into one: InSinkErator, Moen, GE and Waste King all rule it out.
