Washing Machine Cleaner Tablets: BLITZ vs Affresh
BLITZ costs $1.04 a clean (24 tablets for $24.95) against $3.25 to $4.00 for Affresh at regular Canadian prices on October 20, 2026, and one box lasts a year at one tablet every two weeks. BLITZ lists citric acid, a descaler, first, then an oxygen cleaner; Affresh lists sodium percarbonate, an oxygen cleaner, first. One unscented tablet in the empty drum, septic-safe, from a Québec company in Laval with free shipping from $40, 10% back in store credit and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Which should you pick?
We pick BLITZ for most washers: a year of cleans in one box for $24.95, a descaler and an oxygen cleaner in one unscented tablet, from a Québec company that answers in French or English.
- Prefer Amazon? BLITZ is on Amazon.ca too, at the same price, without the 10% store credit.
- Front-load, top-load or HE, Whirlpool, LG, Samsung or GE: one tablet in the empty drum, then Tub Clean or the hottest cycle (on a Samsung, a separate hot cycle, never Self Clean).

Affresh vs BLITZ ingredients: what each tablet does
The first ingredient tells you what each tablet is built to do. Here are both lists, in the order each brand publishes them.

- Affresh is an oxygen cleaner. Sodium percarbonate, which Affresh labels an "oxidizer," comes first; in water it releases hydrogen peroxide, which helps lift odour-holding residue. Then sodium carbonate (washing soda), processing aids and fragrance.
- BLITZ is a descaler plus an oxygen cleaner. Citric acid comes first: it dissolves limescale and mineral deposits. Then sodium carbonate and sodium percarbonate, a surfactant, and water-softening builders (sodium silicate, zeolite). No chlorine, no fragrance.
With hard water, a citric acid descaler in every clean is the job BLITZ is built for, with an oxygen cleaner in the same tablet for residue.
Affresh price in Canada vs BLITZ, per clean (October 20, 2026)
We checked regular shelf prices, not temporary sales, from the seller itself (Amazon.ca sold by Amazon, Walmart.ca sold by Walmart). Price per clean is the box price divided by its tablets.

| Where | Pack | Regular price | Per clean |
|---|---|---|---|
| BLITZ, goblitzclean.com or Amazon.ca | 24 | $24.95 | $1.04 |
| Affresh, Amazon.ca | 12 | $38.99 | $3.25 |
| Affresh, Amazon.ca | 6 | $20.99 | $3.50 |
| Affresh, Walmart.ca | 3 | $10.97 | $3.66 |
| Affresh, KitchenAid.ca | 3 | $10.99 | $3.66 |
| Affresh, Canadian Tire | 3 | $11.99 | $4.00 |
A year, as each brand directs: 24 BLITZ cleans cost $24.95, or $32.90 with shipping on a single box. Twelve monthly Affresh cleans cost $38.99 (one 12-pack) to $47.96 (four 3-packs at Canadian Tire).
Sales: that day, Walmart.ca had the 3-pack on Rollback at $7.97 ($2.66 a clean) and Canadian Tire at $10.79 until October 21. Home Depot Canada also lists the 3-pack, but its site blocked our price check.

Directions: which cycle, and how often
Both start the same way: take out all laundry, put one tablet straight into the drum (not the drawer or dispenser), and add no detergent.
- Affresh: run Clean Washer if your washer has it, otherwise Normal or Heavy on Hot. Repeat monthly or every 30 washes.
- BLITZ: run the hottest cycle, or Tub Clean. In a top loader, pick the largest load so the water reaches the rim. Repeat every two weeks. First clean after a long gap: two cycles back to back, a new tablet each.
- After either: wipe the door seal or rim, and leave the door and drawer open to dry.
Monthly vs every two weeks. Whirlpool and Maytag ask for a clean at least once a month, more with hard water or heavy use. BLITZ goes every two weeks, and a year of it, 24 cleans for $24.95, still costs less than 12 Affresh cleans. More in how often to clean your washing machine.
Careful: One cleaner per cycle. Never add bleach to either tablet: BLITZ contains citric acid, and Health Canada warns that bleach mixed with an acid releases toxic gas.
BLITZ by washer brand: Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE
One BLITZ tablet in the empty drum works in each brand below; only the cycle name changes.

- Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana: run Clean Washer, or the highest water level and hottest temperature. These makers ask for a clean at least once a month, more with hard water or heavy use; BLITZ every two weeks covers that.
- LG: put one tablet straight in the empty tub and run Tub Clean, which LG asks for monthly or every 30 uses (when tcL shows). LG's WM4000H and WT7005C manuals list cleaning tablets and lime scale removers, and BLITZ has no chlorine or bleach. Details in how to clean an LG washer.
- Samsung: Self Clean takes only bleach; the manual says not to use or mix any other detergent or chemicals in it. Samsung Canada adds that a washer cleaner may help if odours persist, so BLITZ goes in a separate hot cycle, never in Self Clean. See how to clean a Samsung washer.
- GE: Basket Clean takes liquid bleach, vinegar or a washing machine cleaner, so BLITZ goes right in.

Yes. One tablet in the empty drum, then Clean Washer or the hottest cycle, the same cycle Affresh uses.

Yes. On an LG, put one tablet straight in the empty tub and run Tub Clean; BLITZ has no chlorine or bleach. On a Samsung, use BLITZ in a separate hot cycle, never in Self Clean.
