Clorox Toilet Tablets Alternative: BLITZ vs Clorox vs 2000 Flushes

Short answer

BLITZ is the Clorox toilet tablet alternative that tells you when to replace it: the tank water turns blue, and when the blue stops, a new tablet goes in. No chlorine or bleach is listed, the two things Fluidmaster warns against in drop-in tank cleaners. It comes from a Québec company in Laval, with a full French store and service in French and English: 12 tablets for $25.95, a year in one box at $2.16 a month against $2.26 for a Clorox puck (October 20, 2026), most orders in 2 to 3 business days, free shipping from $40 and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

  • BLITZ (product page): four surfactant cleaning agents, a blue colourant (CI 42090) and fragrance. No chlorine, bleach or boric acid listed.
  • Clorox puck (clorox.ca): three chlorinated or brominated hydantoins and boric acid. Clorox Canada's SDS (CAN001365) puts boric acid at 10 to 30%, with "May damage fertility or the unborn child". The page warns "DANGER: CORROSIVE. CAUSES BURNS."
  • 2000 Flushes Blue Plus Bleach: "uses powerful chlorine" (Walmart.ca). WD-40 Company's 2014 US SDS lists chlorinated hydantoins; read the box for the current formula.
  • 2000 Flushes Blue Plus Detergents: "uses powerful detergents" (Walmart.ca). The 2014 SDS lists surfactants (45 to 60%) and fragrance (1 to 5%).

Careful: with a chlorine tablet in the tank, never add an acid bowl cleaner or vinegar: Health Canada warns that bleach mixed with acids gives off toxic gases.

How long each lasts, and the blue-water reminder

  • BLITZ: when the blue stops, drop in a new tablet (up to 30 days or 300 flushes).
  • Clorox: "up to 3 months. Effective for up to 10 flushes per day." Replace it "when tablet has dissolved".
  • 2000 Flushes (both): up to 4 months (Bleach, clear water) or 5 (Detergents, blue water). Both say to replace the tablet once it "has completely dissolved", so you lift the lid to know, even with blue water.

BLITZ directions: drop one tablet into the tank water (not the bowl), away from the flush valve and other moving parts, and flush. Scrub a heavy ring once first: no tablet removes an old one (see toilet bowl rings by colour).

Tip: Drop the tablet in on the first of the month. If the blue fades early, that toilet gets heavy use. (Our suggestion.)

Chlorine tablets and your tank parts

Chlorine warnings. Fluidmaster, which makes replacement flappers: "DO NOT USE IN-TANK DROP-IN TOILET BOWL CLEANERS CONTAINING BLEACH OR CHLORINE". Kohler's installation guide (1225707-2): "Products containing chlorine (calcium hypochlorite) can seriously damage fittings in the tank." Both cover Clorox and 2000 Flushes Bleach. BLITZ lists no chlorine or bleach: it cleans with detergents.
